AHA Applauds FDA and Encourages Further Efforts on Sodium Reduction

What a great week to break up with salt! The company that makes Lays chips and Quaker cereal just announced a new commitment to sodium reduction. And, this week the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is asking for feedback on draft voluntary targets for sodium in various foods.

More consumers want limits set on the sodium added to food by food companies and restaurants

More of you want limits set on the sodium added to food.  According to a new survey commissioned by the American Heart Association, the growing majority of people believe that the government should be involved in setting limits on the amount of sodium added to food by food companies and restaurants. With comments due next Monday, October 17 on the government’s draft voluntary sodium targets, this is good news!

New Study Shows More Efforts by the Food Industry to Reduce Sodium

Check it out! There’s more science that food companies are reducing sodium. A study published today found that sodium levels decreased in a sample of top selling packaged foods by about 7% from 2009 to the beginning of 2015. This shows the success that comes from coordinated efforts to reduce sodium.
