It’s a challenge to be active during the COVID-19 pandemic, when physical distancing is essential. Walking and hiking trails, dedicated bike lanes and paths for scooters and other rolling — “active transportation” — can make all the difference in keeping us moving.
But for many people, such infrastructure isn’t nearby. It’s paramount that everyone has access to these active transportation avenues.
So please contact your members of Congress, as they consider COVID-19 recovery legislation, to urge them to include the Transportation Alternatives Program. TAP funds active transportation programs such as Safe Routes to School and other infrastructure.
Take just a moment to send a letter to your representative and senators in support of these healthy programs.
Funding for these programs expires this year. But it’s critical that we have safe opportunities to get outside for walking, biking and other active transportation. Staying physically active during the pandemic helps our physical and mental health.
Let’s tell Congress today to help all people across the country be “Healthy for Good!”
