Having a positive attitude is key to achieving good health. But it’s not enough. We must employ a holistic approach — especially when facing common obstacles such as lack of time, resources and motivation.

It takes committed action to thrive and live healthier that consequently shapes our mind, body and soul. We must be consistently proactive in creating opportunities to balance life, reduce stress, increase physical activity and eat healthy to truly get significant results in our look and feel.

While more efforts are driving communities to enjoy a healthier lifestyle, there are hurdles to providing much needed tailored health resources — particularly for at-risk communities that are more susceptible to cardiovascular diseases stroke and have unique needs.

This is why the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association develops programs that support and motivate people every step of the way, regardless of their physical or health level.

Initiatives like Go Red Get Fit, nationally sponsored by Macy’s, support women through her journey to wellness. The Facebook fitness challenge is helping women get off their high blood pressure medication, reduce their weight and make small changes that lead to big results through education, tips, resources, incentives and more.

You can start today with the “Less Salt, More Sweat” quarterly challenge, which recommends exercising at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week. The nutrition part — “Less Salt” —educates people on the health effects of excessive sodium consumption, the benefits of eating less salt and how to limit intake to 1,500 mg a day, as recommended by the AHA/ASA.
