Summer Mocktails – no salted rims, please!

Ahh. Summer is in full swing! We hope you are enjoying some fun in the sun. But, is something missing when you are staying active outside? I know! It’s that cool beverage by your side. But remember, sodium doesn’t just come in food form. Both beverages and food can have excess sodium.

Think about this: the average American adult eats about 1,288,085 mg of sodium per year. That’s like licking the salt off 560 margarita glasses!

Instead of salted rims, how about you check out our summer mocktail recipes. They are tasty, flavorful, and oh-so refreshing. Here are three recipes that you can try this summer:

Strawberry-Lemonade Italian Ice: Enjoy the bold, tangy flavor of the lemonade, coupled with the sweetness from fresh strawberries. Serve in a chilled glass and garnish with a slice of lemon. What could be more refreshing?

Raspberry Basil Iced Tea: There’s nothing like fresh herbs in a beverage. The raspberry and tea go so well together with the basil. Not into basil? We think that other fresh herbs like mint, lemon thyme, and even rosemary can work in this three-ingredient recipe.

Blueberry Mango Smoothie:  Sweet, creamy, and full of flavor. That’s the best way to describe this refreshing smoothie. The mango and blueberries pair perfectly with a splash of vanilla to make this summer mocktail a winner! Because frozen fruit is in this beverage, it’s best served right after blending.
