Calling Food Companies and Restaurants to Answer AHA President’s Call to back Government Sodium Targets

Recognizing that you deserve the freedom to decide how salty your food is, past AHA President Dr. Mark Creager called on the food industry to participate in the dialogue about the government’s draft voluntary sodium targets, and asked food companies to offer healthier options with more moderate levels of sodium.

Now, the government is asking for comments about these draft targets by October 17 – about a month from now. Let’s encourage food companies and restaurants to write about their support for sodium reduction support them!

You deserve the right to choose how much salt your food contains.

And we know that the government and some food companies agree with you. Since the government is asking for comments on their draft voluntary sodium targets, we need to tell food companies and restaurants to join in the conversation with the government to support sodium reduction, and keep driving forward with more commitments to sodium reduction.

Food companies and restaurants that support and eventually adopt the FDA’s voluntary sodium targets will lower the amount of sodium in their foods to meet them; making healthier foods available to you and millions of other consumers.

This means you will have the power to choose the healthier option.

Food companies are hearing you, and momentum is building: now is the time to offer healthier foods with more moderate levels of sodium.

We need your voice to demand change!

Support food companies and restaurants who have already made efforts to reduce sodium, and encourage more food companies to break up with salt.
